Interoperable AV over IP is coming, and IPMX is the only proposed open standard protocol.
Built on the collaborative effort of hundreds of leading companies, it is designed to be the technology that manufacturers, integrators, and end-users need to achieve truly engaging IP media experiences.
PLUG & PRESENT
Unified communications, enterprise, education, and digital signage are creating a need for low-latency audio and video streams over common IP infrastructure to support today’s presentations, including conferencing, collaboration, and multi-source media experiences.
- Scales to any network, including COTS network
- Supports 4K60 4:4:4 from 1 Gigabit
- Features including interoperable USB create truly interactive and immersive AV experiences
- Provisions for control, copy protection, connection management, and security
PLUG & PRODUCE
Quality and timing are everything in live video production. With synchronized, real-time, broadcast-quality video, support for reference-quality productions, and synchronous and asynchronous streams, anyone can create compelling stories with stunning production value on any hardware or software.
- Sub-frame latency and time synchronization using the trusted PTP and SMTPE ST 2110 standards
- JPEG-XS codec for broadcast quality, yet efficient enough to deliver 4K60 on a 1-Gigabit connection
- Software-only solutions to provide the flexibility needed for cloud environments
PLUG & PLAY
Dedicated gamers in eSports, employees now working from home, cinephiles, and prosumers demand performance and ease of use. In the end, users just want their systems to work.
- Auto device discovery (as easy as finding a printer)
- High-frame-rate support, including 144fps
- Support for interoperable HDCP

WHAT IS THE VISION OF IPMX?
A standard perfectly suited for pro AV and live production, built on a foundation of proven broadcast standards and specifications; extended with thoughtful additions that bring accessibility, flexibility, and affordability to AV over IP.
WHO NEEDS IPMX?
The professional audiovisual industry needs a truly open AV over IP standard that benefits everyone. An accepted standard developed through a rigorous process will ensure that the technology is complete, correct, and simple. It must be a standard that software and hardware manufacturers can invest in and use to build tomorrow’s AV systems. IPMX is based on the proven SMPTE ST 2110 standard deployed throughout broadcast but adapted specifically for pro AV needs, with the addition of HDCP copy protection, network discovery and registration, and I/O management, including multichannel surround sound. IPMX is simple to deploy, requiring only basic networking equipment; scales, supporting any bitrate with compressed or uncompressed streams; and is video format-agnostic.
WHO WINS WITH IPMX?
Because IPMX comes from AIMS, AMWA, VSF, SMPTE, and AES, it will be truly open and interoperable. Manufacturers will win the widest customer base and the freedom to make any product they can imagine, without compromise. Integrators will have the freedom to choose the best solutions to fit any installation and network with automatic device discovery, saving time and frustration on the job. End users will enjoy the best products with optimal performance.
Who wins? With IPMX, everyone wins.
WHO IS BEHIND IPMX?
IPMX originated from the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS). IPMX’s development is a collaboration between AIMS and the Joint Taskforce on Network Media (JT-NM), which is a federation of organizations that includes The Video Services Forum (VSF), the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and SMPTE. Each of these organizations is an independent non-profit, without any commercial association to any vendor. Each organization is committed to the work of open standards that are available to everyone at low or no cost, whenever possible. In this way, you can be sure that IPMX will remain free and open to all that wish to use the technology.
