The resources below are presented to offer an introduction to IPMX protocol as well as more technical detail about development and implementation of the protocol. Developed as part of the efforts of the Pro AV Working Group within AIMS, in keeping with the mission of AIMS, IPMX addresses the need for an open-standards-based approach in the transition to AV over IP. The materials here focus specifically on IPMX and the issues for pro AV. For more background on the broader issues of media over IP in other industries, please visit the main AIMS website.Â
IPMX: The Emerging AV over IP Open Standard for Pro AV
With the recent availability of viable platforms, AV over IP technology in the Pro AV market has improved dramatically. However, extensive research with customers and consultants has revealed a predictable downside: a lack of interoperability that frustrates customers and limits adoption. That’s why the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) has developed IPMX, short for Internet Protocol Media Experience, an emerging open standard protocol for AV over IP in the Pro AV industry.
White Paper: AV Over IP
In December 2018, AIMS launched a Pro AV Working Group, tasked with promoting a set of media-over-IP protocols for the pro AV and installed systems markets. In this paper, we explain the rationale behind this effort and why it is important, and we take a close look at the implications for the broader pro AV community.
